March PSATS Update: Week 2

Population:

  • Pennsylvania’s total population declined by 41,000 between 2020 and 2023.
  • 23 counties grew in population, while 44 declined.
  • Pike and Cumberland Counties had the highest growth rates, while Forest County had the largest decline.

Governor’s News:

  • Governor Shapiro announced a plan to develop an energy plan for Pennsylvania.
  • The plan focuses on reducing emissions while keeping utility costs low.
  • It includes a cap-and-invest program and a requirement for a diverse energy portfolio by 2035.

Grant Opportunities:

Townships can apply for All-Terrain Vehicle and Snowmobile Grants until March 29th. (DCNR grant application portal)
Townships can participate in the COSTARS Sodium Chloride (Road Salt) Contract by submitting an agreement by March 15th.

  • Inflation remains above the Federal Reserve’s target at 3.2%.
  • Several townships received funding from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to hire more police officers.

MCATO, or the Montgomery County Association of Township Officials, is a successor organization of the Supervisors and Auditors Association of Montgomery County.

The organization was formed at an Association Convention held in New Hanover Township on February 24, 1977.
