Important News and Opportunities for Montgomery County Townships

This May update brings you a variety of news and opportunities relevant to Montgomery County townships.

Support America250 PA

The Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors (PSATS) is encouraging townships to adopt a resolution in support of “America250 PA,” a statewide initiative celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026. The resolution acknowledges the important role townships played in the founding of the nation and encourages participation in events and programs commemorating this historic milestone. Challenge Unreliable Broadband Service (Deadline May 23rd)

Under the Pennsylvania Public Utility Code, townships have the right to challenge the service quality of local internet providers. The deadline to file a formal complaint is May 23rd, 2024. PSATS recommends consulting with legal counsel before initiating this process. (https://www.psats.org/reminder-townships-may-challenge-broadband-service-from-local-providers-until-may-23/)

National Police Week (May 15th-21st)

May 15th-21st is National Police Week, a time to honor and celebrate the vital role that police officers play in our communities. MCATO encourages townships to recognize the dedication and service of their local law enforcement personnel.

Unclaimed Property for Townships

The Pennsylvania Department of Treasury maintains a database of unclaimed property, which includes funds owed to townships. Townships are encouraged to search the database and claim any funds to which they are entitled. (https://www.psats.org/find-your-money-townships-owed-unclaimed-property-5/)

Grant Opportunities

  • Wild Resource Conservation Program: The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) is accepting applications for the Wild Resource Conservation Program. This program offers grants to municipalities for projects that conserve and enhance wild flora and fauna. (https://www.psats.org/wild-resource-conservation-program-accepting-applications/)
  • Historical and Archival Records Care Grants: The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) is offering grants to help municipalities preserve historical and archival records. (https://www.psats.org/historical-archival-records-care-grants-are-back/)
