A Legacy of Empowering Local Leaders: The History of MCATO
The Montgomery County Association of Township Officials (MCATO) has a proud history of serving and supporting township officials in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Our story began in 1977, with the establishment of the Supervisors and Auditors Association of Montgomery County. This marked a significant step forward in fostering collaboration and improving township government across the county.
Building Strong Foundations: The First Leaders
The success of any organization rests on the shoulders of its dedicated leaders. We are honored to recognize the individuals who served as the first officers of MCATO in 1977:
President: Lawrence C. Anderson, Salford Township
1st Vice President: John W. C. Kohr, Upper Salford Township
2nd Vice President: Thomas Ainsworth, Whitpain Township
Secretary: Russell H. Place, Worcester Township
Treasurer: Robert M. Rohland, Salford Township
These founding members laid the groundwork for MCATO’s ongoing commitment to providing exceptional resources, promoting collaboration among member townships, and advocating for the best interests of our communities.
A Journey of Growth and Adaptation
Since its inception, MCATO has continuously evolved to meet the changing needs of township officials. Over the years, we’ve:
- Expanded educational offerings: We offer a wider range of workshops, conferences, and training programs to equip officials with the latest knowledge and skills.
- Developed valuable resources: We provide members with access to best practice guides, legal resources, and online tools to enhance their effectiveness.
- Strengthened advocacy efforts: We work tirelessly to represent the interests of our member townships before local, state, and federal policymakers.
- Looking Forward: Building on a Strong Foundation
MCATO remains dedicated to the vision set forth by our founders. We strive to be a vital resource for township officials, fostering a collaborative environment where they can connect, share knowledge, and navigate the ever-changing landscape of local government.
